Only a Few More Weekends to Tour the Alki Light House

P7170132 The Alki Light House is open for tours every weekend from 1:00 - 4:00 pm until Labor Day.

It's an amazing bit of Seattle history and a beautiful place to visit.  Established in 1887, the current tower was first lit in 1913, the lighthouse will be celebrating her 100th birthday in a couple years!

PS: the tours are FREE!

Come check it out before Labor Day!   Here are more of my photos of the Alki Point Lighthouse.

West Seattle Blog has a nice article with more details about the Alki Point Lighthouse.

Where the Water Begins: Free Workshop from the King Conservation District

The King Conservation District is holding a series of free workshops for property owners along the marine shorelines and bluffs of King County.   Beach Drive has plenty of waterfront and bluff homes that have faced recent potential issues with mud slides.

The workshop will provide an opportunity to learn about the ecological, geological and vegetation management issues associated with owning waterfront property.

Topics will include:

  • Understanding marine near-shore and riparian ecology
  • Recognizing geologic hazards
  • Using native vegetation to reduce erosion and to improve fish and wildlife habitat

Who should attend:

  • Beach property owners interested in a stable natural shoreline
  • Bluff property owners interested in reducing the potential for erosion and landslides
  • Any marine shoreline or bluff property owner interested in improving fish and wildlife habitat.

When and where:

All workshops are from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm (indoor session) and 12:30 - 3:30 pm (optional pre-order boxed lunch $12 and field trip).

Extra 2008 Calendars

I ordered too many calendars for 2008.   They have a photo of Alki when the Statue of Liberty returned on September 11, 2007.   If you would like to have one...just let me know.   They are 8.5 x 11 with all months on the page with the color photo.

FREE Bed Frame

Just noticed this at 4707 Beach Drive.  I'm not sure if it's a queen or full size bed frame (the bottom part with the wheels)...but it's sitting out front, next to the garage with a FREE sign.

Happy HOLLY-days

One neighbors major pruning can be another neighbors holiday arrangement.   The Burkholders, owners of Screamer Hats (we could all wear a Screamer Hat today--brrrr) say the neighbors are welcome to prune some holly from their downed holly tree.    You'll find this tree near the south end of Emma Schmitz Memorial Viewpoint.

Happy Thanksgiving to your family from ours!

Wow...Free Light Bulbs too!

Free energy saving light bulbs while available at Admiral Metropolitan Market along with the re-usable grocery bags (which require a purchase of $50 or more which hard to do at Met Market).   Published live from my Treo.
