Okay...I'm going to tell you that Active Rain may not going to be thrilled with this...but you'll see many other "Rainers" use this mega blog at times for this purpose: posting teasers in AR with a link back to your blog for the rest of the story. I honestly don't do this very often...it really depends on the type of article and who I'm trying to reach (and I don't give a rats patooty about AR points)...but this could help drive more to a blog you're trying to establish and I there's nothing wrong with promoting your blog!
So for example, you could write a post, such as this one I have over at Mortgage Porter about what a great time it is to buy in Seattle right now. And then post an "introduction" with enough information to make the post worthy at AR with a link for more information (or the complete post) back on your personal blog site. Here's my AR post. It has good information for readers if they don't chose to hit the link back to my blog, yet if they do click the link, they'll get the full story.
The goal is to drive more readers to YOUR personal RE blog.
BTW with the AR post, I selected it to be public for consumer and professional readers and I did make it specific to a region: Washington. This is because I'm limited to helping Washington home owners for their mortgage needs.
